Air China, the official flag carrier of the Peoples Republic of China has this week finalised new orders with both the Boeing Company and Airbus Industries for 65 aircraft worth USD $10.1 billion dollars at list prices.
The Chinese national carrier has formally agreed terms with the Boeing Company for 30 narrow-bodied Boeing 737-800 and 15 long rang wide bodied Boeing 777-300ERs. The total transaction value is believed to be around USD $6.3 billion dollars with deliveries commencing in late 2009.
The 30 new 737-800s will join 45 of the type already in services and allow the retirement of the older and less fuel efficient 737-300s, of which 30 remain in operation. Air China also operates 6 737-600 and 20 737-700 along side the larger 800s on domestic and regional routes to Japan, Korea, Thailand, Vietnam & Singapore.
As part of its commitment to reduce carbon emissions and fuel consumption Air China is also installing Boeing blended winglets to its entire fleet of Next Generation 737s (600/700/800 models). All new delivery aircraft will be delivered with winglets installed while the rest of the fleet will be retrofitted by the end of 2009.
