This might be a positive sign. Shanahan came from IDS and while the 787 program continues to struggle, at least he's been able to complete frames and get them out under their own power onto the tarmac - something Bair couldn't do.

So by shoving Carson out the door and replacing him with the head of IDS, it might get Commercial Airplanes as a unit back onto their feet. Plus Albaugh and Shanahan know each other from their time together at IDS so maybe if there was a "communications disconnect" on the 787 program under Carson, that will now stop with Albaugh.
